Is Home schooling the right way to raise kids
My son started school. And as he began I saw how there are a bunch of kids each from four of his classroom, and two other grades line up for pick up. With Kindergarten and First grade it was so personal, the teachers knew who the students and were so invested into each of them, they all knew them by their names.
And I personally loved that. And I understand that school has just started and it will get some getting used to but suddenly my Instagram feed shows up with homeschooling influencer clearly because I stayed on too long on one of the homeschooling influencers pages.
If I had that aptitude and knew what I was getting into I would surely try it out.
And hence as a research project I have decided to write this article to understand and to answer any queries you might have.
Homeschooling essentially entails parents educating their kids at home instead of sending them to public or private schools. One of the many reasons someone may choose to put their children in a homeschooling setting could be because they don't agree with the typical schooling structure or the child could be having a difficult time understanding the structure being taught. Sometimes a child can have learning disabilities that can hinder them understanding the material in a traditional setting. And at times it can just be a personal choice.
For me I was not aware that Home schooling could be an option. With my first born I would have a lot of complaints about disruption of class and throwing things around when he was in Preschool. It was very stressful to go through that. Knowing that you know your child but the teachers are unable to understand him it bothered me. At that point I was on Unemployment. Having worked my entire life and then staying at home it was an adjustment for me and my anger I think would come out of him. And that bothered him and he would maybe take it out in school.
It was a learning for me and I changed my self and took the time in unemployment to understand them my two kids.
Pulled them out of childcare, afterschool everything and stayed, it was difficult, but I kept them home, let them be free because when I was working full time and putting my kids in daycare while others had arrangements to manage their kids without putting them through it all it used to bother me. And my inlaws and parents dint support me in raising my kids that also bothered me.
I am again at that point where in a few months I either go back to work and put my kids through after care and all becasue now they are bigger and will be able to manage or I find a way to make it work me staying home and them only needing the regular hours they need from school and no more except for clubs and sports.
Writing is my way to try an make this work. My intention is to write a lot everyday, useful that some of you can at least use in life or simply have a good feeling reading into or even learn something or feel connected.
So lets stay back to the point of homeschooling. This can be an option when a parent chooses to stay home and be an educator for their child. And therefore it is important to be able to have an income that can be sufficient otherwise both parents end up working and the kids suffer.
I don't want my kids to suffer. But if I homeschool I don't know what will happen because my kids get a lot of screen time at home. Sure with me present I try my best to send them out whenever and keep restrictions on how much time they get on the screen but I know if I go back to work and keep them in aftercare someone will suffer, either the homework will not be done, or the food will not be good or something. Because my husband still comes in late and then for me to go to work, pick up kids, give them food, make food and then do homework I will not be able to do it all.
That is why I am trying to find unconventional ways to make income.
If you are interested in learning about homeschooling follow my blogs. Each state has a home school association. I am going to link for New Jersey New Jersey Homeschool Laws
and California California Homeschool Laws.
I would say this I myself am skeptical of the Public schools in USA especially NJ because I had a tough time when my child was in preK and I didn't want him to be struggling there with labels. I found a public charter school that was amazing up to this point and I evaluate it every year on how does it affect my child as should you before making an informed decision.
As Millennials we grew up in stricter households and we are trying to be the change that this generation needs but in doing so we have to be very wary so that we can build a stronger generation and a more resilient one.
Ultimately as a parent you know what your child deserves and no parent I tell you likes it when their child is called out as the difficult one or the disruptor or the one with the learning disability no one. But we are trying to do out best for our children, as mothers for generations. And whether Homeschooling or public school is good for your child only you can tell best.
I am going to keep my child in Public but I will definietley try to see what resources are available for Homeschooling.
